Crafting and creating are two things that make me happy no matter what is going on around me. Being able to get to that happy place is the key to feeling good both mentally and physically.
I believe the most wonderful gift we can give to the people we love is finding our own happiness. We cannot uplift others until we have uplifted ourselves first. For me, crafting is not about the end piece that I create, but the magical process of making it and sharing it with others that brings me true joy.
I recently stumbled upon a fun art project to share with you! It is fun, simple to do and very relaxing! You do not need to know how to draw, paint, crochet or knit! It is called yarn painting and is perfect for both adults and children.
All you need to get started is a photograph, yarn scraps and a bottle of glue. Above are just two examples of what you can create by gluing down the image on a board and filling in sections of color with scraps of yarn. I used my two favorite subjects, my pug, Emmitt and my sister’s corgi, Moe.
To make this yarn painting, the first thing I did was to print a photo of my sister’s corgi, Moe.
I glued it to a board and then started filling in the shapes with gel glue and strips of yarn.
I burnished each piece of yarn down with the bone folder after I laid it on the strip of gel glue. I gently pushed the new yarn piece up against the previous row and snipped it at the end with the sharp scissors to the correct length. I think it really changed from a photo to a painting when I filled in the eyes. It really added more interest when I changed some areas from horizontal to vertical yarn placement.
The final step was to put in the background which I also filled in with both horizontal and vertical yarn placement to add flow and texture. The process is simple, fun and relaxing. If you would like to try this wonderful craft, I have created a more in depth tutorial of how I created this yarn painting on my blog.
You can go as fast or slow as makes you happy!
