One of my best friends once told me, "Lindsay, we're just throwing paint on our canvas of life." Ever since, I have approached my life in the same way that I approach my drawings: I have no idea how I'm going to make this work, but I am confident that once I start, the rest will come naturally. In turn, drawing has become a small-scale metaphor of my life. It has taught me not to be intimidated when I am faced with the unfamiliar, but to start somewhere, anywhere, because the canvas is not going to fill itself. Along the way, never be afraid to be bold and tackle a project with your own sense of style. This is what makes your artwork distinctly yours, and it is what makes you an individual in every sense of the word. It's difficult to take risks, whether it's with your art or in your life, but the worst that can happen is that we make a mistake - and every artist knows that all mistakes are fixable. My name is Lindsay Zeltzer and I am an artist. I graduated from Florida State University on May 1st, and like many graduates, my future is unsure. I do not say this in a negative sense; rather, I think of it in positive terms of the endless possibilities that lie ahead of me. As I look ahead at my future, my blank canvas, I am trying not to be intimidated by all of the glaring white space that I must eventually fill. Art has taught me that I am a fully capable and talented person who makes my own destiny, and as long as I follow my heart, the final composition will turn out exactly the way I envisioned.

Lindsay, your article has inspired me deeply; and your art is incredibly beautiful - I thought it was a photograph! Thank you for helping me broaden my horizons re: creativity as metaphor, which I have been doing, but you brought up a POV I'd not realized thank you for that gift. I especially strenthened with I read "Art has taught me that I am a fully capable and talented person who makes my own destiny, and as long as I follow my heart..." - Blessings to you and everyone here..
