Creativity is powerful stuff. Beyond the resulting object of your efforts, the act of creation transforms, elevates and heals. When we create we are defying destruction. When we are crafting through tragedy, loss or illness in spite of our difficulties we are seizing joy. We are also shifting our consciousness to a more positive awareness and in doing so we begin to clearly see possibilities and to dream big dreams and find ways to make them real. We are crafting our lives as much as we are crafting beautiful things.
This career began for me after a year of professional loss and personal illness. During that year I relentlessly pursued a variety of pathways to a new career, but absolutely nothing was panning out. I also became very sick. All along beads kept gently nudging me on the shoulder and saying...here’s your direction. I simply couldn’t see how making jewelry and crafting could be a viable career. Things finally unfolded for me after a series of well received designs and a personal epiphany. Once I found a way to combine my love of crafting with my writing and performing skills, I discovered the pathway to a new career. Creativity literally changed my life and figuratively saved my life.
I get regular e-mails from women who tell me how I’ve inspired them to explore their creativity. I can’t begin to express how much that means to me. They tell me stories of surviving cancer, death of a spouse, moving to a new country, changing careers...and how creativity was their touchstone as they navigated these life changes. It doesn’t matter what you create. It doesn’t have to win awards. It doesn’t even have to be pretty. It’s not about the finished product. It’s about taking the creative journey.
Carpe gaudium! Seize joy!
