I had spinal surgery over six years ago, which has left me in a great deal of pain. I am on a lot of prescription drugs and the doctors try to keep me comfortable. They claim that they can't do surgery or it will leave me paralyzed from the waist down. Sometimes the pain gets me a little down and sometimes the fact that I can't do much any more gets me upset. However, getting out my crochet hook and a bag of yarn, helps me feel better somewhow.
Maybe it's because I feel like I am actually doing something worthwhile. When I finish crocheting an afghan, ornaments or angels, I have something that I have completed and it looks pretty. I took something out of a simple skein of yarn and made something beautiful out of it. Whether it is a gift for someone or a decoration for my house, it is the sense of finishing something and making someone happy.
I learned to crochet when I was only nine years old. My grandma and I used to exchange patterns all the time when she was still alive. She could never just follow a simple pattern, she always knew how to make it better and prettier. She was amazing. Her work was so magical.
Even though I'm not quite as creative as grandma, I can still whip up some pretty things. It's something I enjoy, it relaxes me and it makes me feel good to complete something. In fact, this Christmas, many of my gifts will be hand-made. Digging through old crochet books and finding patterns to make, gives me the opportunity to make something they can't just go out and buy at the store. It's something really special. It also brings back memories of Grandma.

Sheri, Have you had another doctors opinion. Sometimes another doctor has more or different information. My son had a problem for a while and one day another doctor was on duty and he said "I had this same problem as a child and he prescribed medicine and treatment that healed my son. Sincerely, JFB

Beautiful work. I guess that's the one good thing that came from your pain -- wonderful crochet work.
Great job!
