A number of years ago, my hands started to hurt. As I was in my late 50s, I was naturally concerned that I might have arthritis. So I asked my doctor, and he sent me to an orthopedist. When the orthopedist walked in to the examining room where I was waiting for him, I was tatting a cross that eventually went to a grandson-in-law.
The doctor said, "I don't know what you're doing, but don't stop!"
So, you could make the case that I'm under doctor's orders to keep on tatting. An order that I religiously follow nearly every day.
That, along with keeping active generally has kept the relatively mild arthritis I have in check, and I can report that only a few twinges remind me that I do have it.
I know it's hard to tell people that you have to keep moving. I realize that that is not the only secret in fighting the disease, but it's a big part of it in my case.
So, if you're tatting, the Doctor says, "Don't stop!"
You're absolutely correct. If you don't keep moving, everything just stiffens up and eventually, you can't move at all. And that's worse. . .

I have found some good information on arthritis treatments at joint juice reviews. Hopefully you find it helpful.
