Hey there! My name is Megan and I am happy to guest blog about my latest projects and how my artistic fortitude is imperative to keeping a healthy and happy lifestyle. It's hard to choose what aspects of art and design I deem to be the most therapeutic when it is constantly incorporated in my studies, career, and social activities. However, I can never deny that all of those challenges are personally rewarding.
The paper flower project was for my visual merchandising job, and I admit that the process was tedious, but yet also meditative. When I am working a repetitive task with my hands, I find myself more focused on my surroundings. In particular, I enjoy listening to favored radio shows while I work, and find that I can engage more fully when my hands are occupied. So, whilst cutting long strips of red card stock, gluing, folding, etc, I am also being enlightened on historical or current events. Above all, I am granted with the satisfaction of having completed a project to my aesthetic liking. There is nothing that puts me in a better mood than a day spent being artistically productive.
Even after the roses were completed, I was so enthused about the results, that I went on to use the excess paper "leaves" to create even more flowers! It's important to just allow that creative verve to push you to your prolific capacity. I really implore readers to focus their creative energy into crafting small projects like these on their free time to not only add a special feature to their home or workplace but to also treat themselves to a fun and fulfilling activity.
